Users have in the past questioned Twitter’s revenue strategies after the introduction of news feed ads and videos were accused of being very much like Facebook, with concerns that it could be turning into a Facebook clone, however it is suggested that new plans will put promoted tweets directly onto the profile page of users, slipping them in with their own personal tweets.
The new ads are currently only in testing therefore only a few users will see this new feature, however if successful would eventually roll out to all users. The promoted tweets are targeted ads, therefore only users who are logged in will be able to see these ads due to them requiring your personal data. The promoted tweets will be tagged with “Suggested By Twitter” and will be separated from the actual tweets of the user.
Verified profiles however will not have these ads although it is currently unknown as to why this may be. This new scheme is an extension of the current scheme in place on the main feed, however whether Twitter decides to roll out the feature to all users is something we will have to wait and see. If users were unhappy about the introduction of ads in the first place, they will undoubtedly be dissatisfied with these new plans, creating even more reason for users to point a finger.
