Gmail Users Hit By Software Glitch

GmailAn issue with Google’s Gmail was identified over the weekend on April the 4th when users were receiving error and safety warnings due to Google forgetting to update a vital security certificate. The errors were reported on Twitter and resolved within 2 hours of being identified.

The issue hit users trying to send an email through their Gmail account as well as through some of the other Google messaging services, with what is said to have been the majority of users affected. Although they could still access and use Gmail, error messages were displayed followed by what was described as unexpected behaviour.

The certificate that Google neglected to renew was that which helps to establish a secure connection so that messages can be sent without the fear of being intercepted, even though it is Google’s own Authority G2 security service which administers the certificates.
